Please join us November 7th, 2015 for our 7th Annual Salute to Our Local Heroes event at the Kern County Fairgrounds from 11am-3pm. This event is a tribute to our local men and women who have served and are currently serving in our military. Just through the Fairgrounds gates, our guests can visit booths from the Tobin James and Madorom wineries, or get a cold beer at the Advance Beverage stand. There will also be representatives on hand from many local veterans’ service organizations, ready to answer any questions. For the kids there will be two bounce houses, face painting, clowns, and even military vehicles to climb on! Inside the exhibition hall, guests will be treated to a BBQ steak lunch prepared by Café Med and Mexicali while they enjoy our program. This year’s program will include a musical salute to America’s Veterans including tunes from each era.
The Wounded Heroes Fund (WHF) is a community-wide organization dedicated to providing assistance to brave service men and women returning home from the battlegrounds of Iraq and Afghanistan. Wendy Porter, the daughter of a Vietnam veteran, realized that more needed to be accomplished, especially for service members and their families to resume life after war. She could not help her father and other returning Vietnam veterans. However, as Executive Director of the Wounded Heroes Fund, she is leading the effort to help the men and women who fought for our freedom in the Middle East.
