McCormick Biological, Inc. (MBI), established in 2001, provides consulting services in the San Joaquin Valley, lower elevations of central California’s Southern Coast Ranges, Sierra Nevada, and Transverse Ranges and the western Mojave Desert.
MBI senior staff maintains skills through involvement with professional societies and continuing education. Our staff is recognized in the industry based on frequent requests to participate as instructors at central California field workshops. MBI provides for ongoing continuing education to all staff levels, including regular attendance at professional development workshops, meetings, and conferences, as well as in-house training and calibration.
MBI provides efficient consulting services while maintaining high quality products and keeping current with industry practices and regulations. Our Bakersfield office is central to the area of primary service, reducing the need for overnight stays to complete field assignments.
MBI has personnel available seven days per week, if necessary. In addition, for clients with a specified need, MBI provides 24-hour availability by phone for emergency response.
˚ Randi McCormick founded MBI in January 2001 after working as an independent consultant and on staff at consulting firms for 14 years. Her previous experience includes managing the Bakersfield staff for The Planning Center, working as a seasonal biologist for the Bureau of Land Management, and holding the position of biologist at Quad Knopf, Inc. (formerly Quad Consultants). She currently manages a staff of up to 18 biologists, seasonal biological technicians and administrative personnel. The firm completes projects for both public and private sector clients. Randi is a member of several professional societies and has been a presenter/instructor for workshops sponsored by the San Joaquin Chapter of The Wildlife Society, including Blunt-nosed Leopard Lizard Survey Workshop (2007 and 2009) and Sensitive Small Mammal Species of the San Joaquin Valley Workshop (2010). Randi's areas of expertise include biological resources of the San Joaquin Valley and surrounding foothills, CESA and FESA permitting, biological resource documentation for CEQA and NEPA, and California Department of Fish and Game (CDFG) Section 1600 Notifications.
˚ JayAnna Miller has been with MBI since April 2004 joining the firm as a biologist. As an associate biologist, her current duties include managing MBI projects by conducting and supervising general biological inventories and focused surveys for threatened and endangered species. JayAnna is responsible for coordinating and staffing surveys, monitoring, and post-construction monitoring tasks on a variety of projects including oil and gas production, utility construction, road construction and general development projects. Her duties include overseeing and documentation of compliance with avoidance, minimization and mitigation requirements. JayAnna's areas of expertise include general biological resources of the San Joaquin Valley, biological resource survey coordination, resource mapping using GIS and other mapping tools, rare plant identification, San Joaquin kit fox assessment and blunt-nosed leopard lizard surveys.
˚ Steve Pruett, a senior project manager, joined MBI in March 2012 bringing 21 years of biological consulting experience to the firm. Mr. Pruett's duties include project management, field survey coordination and leadership, client assistance, agency communication, as well as small mammal trapping tasks. Mr. Pruett has experience over a wide range of projects in central California that have involved implementation of FESA and CESA permits, CDFG Streambed Alteration Agreements, CEQA mitigation monitoring plans and many other mitigation and monitoring projects.
